Small but interesting place to visit. It's free and only takes around 40 minutes to go round at a leisurely pace. Gives a good description of the lives and work of Chinese miners looking for gold and the conditions they faced. Afterwards, for contrast, pop into the main part of Arrowtown for some interesting shops.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
There is a cafe and not much to see. This leads to a few track. I heard that the start point gets flooded with water but you are able to easily walk across. There are few tracks that you can choose to complete depending on the time you have. We completed a 45min track. Recommend to wear track shoes as some paths are slippery.
I'm not big on history related activities but even I found this interesting. Takes less than a half hour to view the entire outdoor exhibit. Nice on a sunny day.
To be able to see what our ancestors and immegrant workers did for a living over 150 years ago in the exact same spot they would have worked is amazing, to see the huts and what conditions they lived in, what a different time to be alive, loved exploring around the river and huts. Nice bike paths too.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Quite touristy but beautiful old town full of character. We walked down to the old Chinese Settlement. The history is very interesting. Looks like some lovely eatery's.
Arrowtown is absolutely beautiful especially in autumn. The trees turn a beautiful shade of orange and yellow. There's many shops residing in restored heritage buldings in the main street to wander about.
Spending a few days here for the Arrowtown festival. I was amazed at the budding artists during the children's competition. Will be posting photos here. The town looks quaint. Interesting stories of the Chinese immigrants who came to join the gold miners there. Well, two more days to go. Will be adding more pictures and experience. The hot chocolate, waffles, and 71% dark cholate is a must try at Patagonia Chocolate.
Beautiful and colourful in autumn season. Walking around the settlement gives a history feels of immigrants and gold miners that used to dwell in these tiny huts. Very interesting information to read as you get around this gullies..Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
