Archway Cafe

About

Giving you updates on the Archway Cafe daily changes and events in Wharariki and about. Photos, recipes, songs, stuff for the body and the soul.

Story

The Archway Cafe is ideally located on Wharariki Beach main carpark, just a 15mn walk away from the gorgeous Wharariki Beach, reknown for its rock, shaped by the sea as an archway.

The ARCHWAY CAFE happily welcomes you during the summer season - 15th November until 1st week end of May- every day, from 9AM to 5PM. (Please note that the Cafe may close in case of storms or heavy rain).

To insure procuring you the best coffee, we have chosen to use Tuatara Coffee beans, a not only organic and fairtrade coffee but also local, as it is roasted in Golden Bay.

For More information on this beautiful coffee, visit website :

Muffins and sweet treats are baked daily to satisfy your cravings; cold beverages, organic juices and ice creams are available to cool you down after a walk on the beach; fresh sandwiches, white bait patties and pies will get you going for the day, wether you are going back on the road or you just need that energy kick to go and explore the caves, surf on the dunes or go play with the seal pups.

The Archway Cafe is not only about food and coffee. Sheltered from the wind by its beautiful, spiritful trees, the Archway is a place for relaxation and peace. While you enjoy your coffee, stroll around the trees to have a look at the crafts and photographs, let your kids play in the playground provided for them, have a nap in the hamac, lulled by the sound of the birds. If you want, come and share your experience with me.

The area is a goldmine for all nature lovers and birdwatchers. To know more about the walks around Wharariki Beach and Farewell Spit, you can visit the Departement of Conservation website on the link below :

And if you decide to prolonge your visit, Wharariki Beach Holiday Park is just a few steps away from the cafe which is open every morning from 9AM to insure you a stressfree morning with fresh coffee and muffins.

I am looking foward to seeing you in this piece of paradise.

What an Absolutely Amazing place, not being biased but upon entering the car park the music got me, could if stayed all day. The staff member was lovely and the coffee is worth going that far for. O and the Peacock & Peahens were great for the kids.
Please ignore the weird bad reviews - the French girl who served us was perfectly nice with a very chill vibe. The coffee was awesome, music was good, and the place has a great quirky feel to it. I had a slice of quiche that was tasty, and this beautiful peacock came to try and get some. This place deserves more than the current star rating - go hang out and enjoy a good coffee before or after visiting Wharakiki Beach. Parking: It's right by the small carpark for the beach - lots of free unlimited parking.
I always enjoy the vibe here whenever I come to Wharariki beach. Good coffees and snacks. Excellent playlist. The girl working there is nice and very helpful!
What a quaint little café - a delight to find so far off the beaten track. Make a very welcome stop after a good walk to the beach, and before biking back to Puponga. Good coffee, regular food. Really enjoyed chatting with the friendly owner .. you just need to engage her in conversation.
A delightfully rustic setting, but the cafe worker was very sullen, n not welcoming or user friendly at all. The peacocks were more friendly. Even if you are having a bad day, please don't put that onto customers. Not a place I will promote. Sorry .
As coffee addicts staying in Pakawau and intent on exploring the northern most corner of the South Island we visited the Archway cafe on each of the three days we were in this region. It's a splendidly quirky place, with interesting furniture and peacocks to entertain. It's very remote so we didn't expect a wide menu offering - what is on offer is our kind of food - delicious muffins. The service too is quirky - as befits the remoteness of this cafe. It's a place to chill - and we were more concerned with the quality of the coffee than light banter with the barista. If you relax into the laid back feel of this place and enjoy the quirkiness rather than expecting city slick service, you can have an outstanding cafe experience. I'm just really grateful to find a great coffee place in this superb setting.
Yes a lovely location, however the service was incredibly disappointing. The young woman who served us was uninterested and rude, and proceeded to make our coffee with dirty hands from staining a bench in the garden area. She was also coughing in her hands whilst packing the coffee and after handling money and never washed them once! We did not drink our coffee, and were left very annoyed. Would recommend going up to the Farewell Spit cafe instead.
I was really exited to go there because its lovely athmosphere, but ended up dissapointed by staff’s behaviour. The girl looked uninterested, wasn’t friendly, we felt like we bother her from reading a book and lying in a hammock. Overall, the place is nice, coffee not too bad but the service is poor.
Awesome little cafe, seating set amongst the trees, friendly inquisitive peacocks.
Very cool place. Outdoor garden, funky music, hamocks, peacocks! Coffee excellent but a bit expensive.
