Stopped in on our way to Mount Grey as had heard really good things about this place. Was a little underwhelmed to be fair, I got the Peppersteak which looked promising with the amount of pepper on the top. But the filling had zero pepper through it! The filling was a firm gravy and had a good amount of steak through it also. Mate got the steak and cheese and sausage roll and wasn’t stoked but content. Overall a decent experience but didn’t meet expectations.
Stopped here for lunch, and we tried the steak and cheese, chicken and mushroom, and Philly cheesesteak pies. The steak and cheese was one of the best I've ever had, with plenty of meat and a delicious, flaky pastry. The same can be said of the Philly pie, with a good amount of meat, onions, and peppers. The chicken and mushroom pie didn't quite hit the same level as the beef pies, falling short in flavor and needing more salt or parmesan, IMO. Overall, a great experience, and we will be back!
Visiting from Melbourne and this is the best pie I’ve ever eaten!!! The stake and mushroom was an absolute ripper, filled with soft chunks of beef and tender, tasty mushrooms!!! The English owner and his son extremely welcoming and I commend their work ethic for being open on Boxing Day!nI’m already excited about my next Amberley Pie and look forward to trying their home made hot chocolate!!!nnI could not recommend the Amberley Pie store more highly, so do yourself a favour if you are in the area!!!
I thought we Aussies did pies the best. Until we visited Amberley Pies, that is...nnFantastic little joint that is pretty unassuming but one that packs the very best into their pies. Tasty, well cooked and an all-round joy to eat. Great work team and have a happy new year
This is the best pie shop in New Zealand. Have had a lot of pies over the years but just had the most perfect mince and cheese pie at Amberley Pies. Perfect pastry, generous amounts of mince and a gooey balance of cheese. Absolutely perfect. The others in the party all loved their pies which included chicken and cranberry, pulled pork with sage and onion, chicken. So glad we stopped here and would highly recommend you try a pie here which will fill you up and make your taste buds very happy!!!
