It was a wonderful experience especially for kids. Well guided tour with a sense of humour which is a bonus. It well be better if you gonna book at the center instead of calling them on their customer hotline number. Recommendable for family with kids. You can clearly see the glow worms inside the cave while riding the boat. Quite fascinating. No videos or camera allowed inside the cave.
Fun-filled filled experience! Family and friends had a very enjoyable time here. Very informative - the tour guide was well rounded and knew his job so well. Safety is always a priority. He even rendered a song for us - cool dude. Initially my grandchildren were hesitant and scared due to darkness however they totally forgot about it and enjoyed the adventure
Wonderful experience, Guides to tell about the cave and give instructions. Good service. Restaurant available with in the permises.Boat ride was exciting with pitch black surrounding and glow worms. Shops inside with collections. But too costly.
It was quite an amazing sight inside the glowworm caves! First part of the tour, you learn about the limestone formation; second part of the tour is a roughly 10-min boat ride during which you see the glow worms. To avoid scaring the glow worms, you are not allowed to take pictures inside the cave. These glow worms are unique to New Zealand so if you are interested in the experience, come to New Zealand!
This was a great way to spend a weekend. My wife and I came during the off season and there were very few people. The country had only just opened back up after Covid, so tourism wasn’t booming yet. The caves were what you’d expect, and quite an interesting and enjoyable experience. The tour with the boat ride was cool but no photography allowed and the tour just up the road was even better longer with cooler caves and photos allowed. The guides were all very knowledgeable and we learned a lot of semi-cool facts. Once is enough though.
What an amazing experience. We went not long after a terrible flood which sadly washed out many of the glow worms but there were still heaps to see and the guides who took us through the caves have come from generations of family members who originally found the caves and have been holding the tours throughthe gaves for many, many years. If you want any experience with caves and glow worms I highly recommend Waitomo Glow Worm Caves!
Loved the caves and learning about its significance to the Māori and its history. Guides Uncle Moi and Stubbs were brilliant and super hospitable. Overall memorable experience and visit we didn’t regret!Visited onWeekdayWait time10–30 minReservation recommendedYes
Awesome place.. loved the tour guides.. they were amazing.. guided and loaded through lots of ancient knowledge.. very interesting & eye gazing.. loved it
This place was highly recommended, so we headed to the place. It’s NZ$61 for a 45 mins tour of the cave and a short boat ride to view the glow worms inside the Cave. There are different packages to view other caves, which may takes between 2-4 hrs, depending on which package you chose. I was disappointed that photography and Videography is not allowed, as the advertisement with a guy carrying a camera was misleading. I thought we could take some beautiful pictures as memories, but I can understand why it is not allowed. Nonetheless, for those who loves nature on Caves and view the glowworms, it is certainly worth a visit. The Cave opens at 10am, and we managed to get the 10:30am ticket on spot. I think there is no need for advance booking.
Nice experience, the tour was very straightforward and the guide was quite funny. The information they told us was relevant and in a way that was entertaining. The gift shop was a bit expensive, the photos I have listed do have the prices on them.Wait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
